CALEA® Electronic Standards Manuals and PowerDMStm by NEOGOV FAQs
Where do I get the CALEA electronic standards manuals? I can’t find them on the CALEA website.
The CALEA electronic standards manuals are not stored on the CALEA website. If you are not a CALEA client, you may subscribe by visiting www.calea.org, and then going to the shopping cart icon at the bottom of the homepage titled “manual subscriptions”.
If you are a new CALEA client, and not currently a PowerDMS customer, upon your enrollment in the CALEA process, you will be provided a PowerDMS site where the standard manual(s) will be added. Current CALEA clients should follow these instructions to subscribe to the appropriate standards manual.
What is PowerDMS?
PowerDMS is a public safety platform that includes a number of products to help agencies reduce liability and operate more efficiently. Upon enrollment in the CALEA accreditation process, an agency is provided access to PowerStandards, to view CALEA Standards electronically and build your electronic assessment. This option creates and supports an entirely paperless process and makes managing accreditation easier and more efficient.
The services included with your CALEA subscription are as follows:
PowerStandards - This is provided as a part of client services for agencies enrolled in CALEA Accreditation.
Agencies are provided with an accreditation management tool allowing you to digitally map proofs of compliance against CALEA Standards and create tasks related to those standards to build a culture of compliance within your agency. Using the robust assessment analytics, CALEA clients have the ability to assign tasks within the assessments, and have overall compliance oversight.
PowerPolicy Professional- CALEA Clients enrolled in a CALEA accreditation program will have access to PowerDMS Policy Professional to organize and manage policies, procedures and other crucial documents across their entire lifecycle. PowerPolicy Professional allows agencies to workflow documents through approval processes, edit, distribute and compare updates to easily identify changes.
CALEA maintains its informational documents, including all standards manuals and the CALEA Guide to Successful Accreditation Management, exclusively through PowerStandards. Updates to the manuals are published within days of amendments approved by the Commission. This provides clients with the fastest access to revisions and provides a tool for visually comparing the newest release to previously-published editions.
I have a subscription to Standards. How do I get the CALEA Electronic Standards Manual loaded into it?
Once you have been provided access to PowerStandards, and you have a username and password, simply log in. If you are a new CALEA client, upon enrollment the manual(s) will be added to your PowerDMS site. Current CALEA clients should follow these instructions to subscribe to their appropriate standard manual.
Is there any training on how to navigate the Electronic Standards Manual in Standards?
When you receive access to your PowerStandards site, you can receive training in one of two ways:
Help Section - After logging into your Standards site, click on Help at the top toolbar, both the Success Community and PowerDMS University hold training content. The Success Community provides a forum filled with quick help documents and a place to ask and answer questions. PowerDMS University gives the user a place to go at their own pace through self-guided tutoring sessions.
Webinar Training – CALEA provides a link to ongoing, free training offered by PowerDMS by NEOGOV. Find the session you want to attend and register. Do I have to pay an annual subscription fee for the CALEA electronic publications?
Every active CALEA member is invoiced for the annual subscription to the CALEA electronic publications.
It is important to note that only PowerDMS by NEOGOV is an authorized distributor of CALEA Publications. Members will be required to meet all accreditation process requirements, which are addressed through Standards.

Who do I call for questions about the CALEA® electronic manuals, including standards manuals access?
Call CALEA at 703.352.4225 and you will be routed to the appropriate resource for your service region.
Why can’t I print the entire manual from PowerStandards?
Standards does not support printing of the entire manual, but users may print individual standards.
